Guilty Gear -Strive- Beginner Guide: 3 Tips To For New Players
Learning a new fighting game can be intimidating when you consider all of the mechanics, characters, and training that’s involved. Here at Onthasticks.com, our goal is to provide you with the info you need, so you can spend more time on the sticks. This article gives you 3 tips that will help anyone who is new to the Guilty Gear series hop online and play confidently!
Tip 1 - Mission Mode
Understanding the mechanics behind a fighting game is a crucial part to becoming better, however there can be “A LOT” of things to learn. I recommended taking the time to go through the missions from beginning to end. You can break them apart and focus on 3 new concepts at whatever frequency you decide is best ( Ex 3 new lessons every 5 days, etc). Feel free to implement whatever
Tip 2 - Training Mode
Now that you’ve taken the time to learn some of the game's fighting mechanics let's explore training mode. Training mode is going to be essential in practicing what you’ve learned. In future articles we will cover how to utilize training mode to improve with some targeted “workouts'' you can perform, but for now let's talk about dashing.
Did you know in Guilty Gear -Strive- you can assign the dash command to a button instead of double tapping left, or right? Take full advantage of assigning this command to any button you feel comfortable with. Having the dash command assigned to a button will make it easier to react, and punish your opponent.
Constantly moving away from your opponent will cause “Danger” signaling that you are in danger of losing your “Tension” gauge which powers each character's special moves, and some other game mechanics we will cover in later articles. If you see the term “Negative” appear, that means that you have lost the meter you have built in your tension gauge.
Tip 3 - Defend Yourself
Fighting with other people can be intimidating when you're just starting out, but training mode gives you the ability to practice with the computer. I recommend turning on the computer and just defending against their attacks. Fighting against the computer will allow you to learn specific character combo strings and you can develop strategies to beat them.
Take some time to practice with these tips and you’ll be playing Guilty Gear -Strive- with confidence in no time. Stay tuned to Onthasticks.com for more -Strive- tips that will have you spending more time on the sticks.
